Abstract

In the first quarter of 2011, the Greater Chinese netbook PC industry's shipment volume continued to be affected by the growing popularity of tablet devices. In particular, the Apple iPad 2 launched at the beginning of March, coupled with the launch of other iPad-like products, which is projected to hit the market in the second quarter of 2011, demand for netbook PCs is expected to decrease further. Looking at netbook PC shipment on quarterly basis, it is observed that with tablet devices continuously eroding its market share, the netbook PC industry’s first-quarter shipment is expected to have peaked in the first quarter of 2011 and dwindle away instead of building up quarter after quarter throughout 2011. The Greater Chinese netbook PC industry’s shipment volume is anticipated to have reached 5.347 million units, representing a 18.5% decline in comparison to the fourth quarter of 2011 and a 19.3% decline in comparison to the first quarter of 2010.
